JUDGEMENT: Our Time, Talents, Treasures & Tongue

One day we will each, individually, give an account of our life to the Lord. Romans 14:12 says “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” Jesus said we will even give an account for every idle word that we speak. When we, as Believers, stand before God to be judged, it is not a judgement of whether we will go to heaven or hell, but rather we will be held responsible for what we did with what He gave us. Many will suffer loss, because though they received the gift of eternal life, they wasted what God put in their hands!

Thankfully we can be prepared for this day! Like Paul, we can run our race and KNOW that we have an everlasting crown awaiting us on the other side. Let’s look 4 things we will give an account for on that day.

Our Time

Ephesians 5:15-16 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

Time is a resource that God has given us to manage wisely. We are advised from the Word to be careful how we live, and to make the most of the opportunities granted us (Colossians 4:5).

Take full advantage of opportunities to serve God, win souls, attend special Holy Ghost meetings, and to participate in what God is doing. Make sure you are never “too busy” for God! One day, you might not have the opportunity anymore, and there’s no do-overs! God is setting paths for your feet, and is setting you up for eternal rewards all the time. Seize those moments, don’t let fear, unbelief or the opinions of man rob you from what God has for you to do.

Our Talents

Matthew 25:14-30 talks about the Master giving his servants talents. One had 10, one had 5 and another had 1. The servants who had 10 and 5 used what their Master had given them, multiplied them and made more with what they had, but the servant with one hid his talent out of fear! The Master was angry with the servant who buried and hid his talent, but was pleased with the two who put theirs to work. Ultimately everyone was judged for how they used what was given to them.

Maybe you feel like you don’t have much to bring to the table, or maybe you do have an ability but fear holds you back. Don’t bury giftings and abilities that God has put on your life. God has an important part for you to play in His Kingdom. Take what you have and attach it to something eternal, put it to use and multiply it!

Treasures

1 Timothy 6:17-19 “As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be proud and arrogant and contemptuous of others, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches, but on God, Who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for [our] enjoyment.  18 [Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous of heart, ready to share [with others],  19 In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed.”

In Deuteronomy we learn that it is God who gives us the power to create wealth to establish His Covenant with us. Everything we have comes from Him, and God requires us to be a steward of what He has given us. We don’t truly own anything, because by virtue of creation everything belongs to God already. It’s important that we are obedient and are good stewards of all that God has entrusted us with.

Tongue

Matthew 12:36-37 says, “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”  Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
