7 …He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:5-11
The name “Jesus” was delivered to Joseph by an Angel, “she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21
Mary and Joseph both spoke Hebrew, so the actual name the Angel gave Joseph was “Yeshua” which means “Yahweh saves” or “The Lord is salvation.” What a precious, sweet Name! Everytime we speak Jesus we are essentially saying “the Lord, MY Lord, who saved me!”
- Yeshua: The original Hebrew name of Jesus, which translates to “Joshua” in English but translates to “Iēsous” in Greek (the language the Gospels were wrote in)
- Iēsous: The Ancient Greek form of Yeshua, translates to “Jesus” in English. Jesus is the correct way to say His name in English.
He is Jesús Cristo in Spanish, Iisus Khristos in Russian, Yēsū Jīdū in Chinese, Iesus Christus in Latin, Yesu Kristo in Swahili, Yeshua HaMashiach in Hebrew, Jezus Christus in Dutch, and He is İsa Mesih in Turkish!
It doesn’t matter what language you call upon His name in! You don’t have to learn Hebrew, Greek or Latin, or get a degree in theology. Men and women express and declare the same thing every every language when they say His wonderful, precious, lovely name: “The Lord Is Salvation”! When men and women speak out His holy name in faith, Heaven stands to attention and hell bows it’s knee! Jesus! That name that makes darkness tremble. That name that holds the power to save, the power to heal and the power to deliver. The wonderful name, that gives us access to the Father in prayer! Jesus, the Lord who saved me!
The Power to Save
Acts 4:12, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
When you got saved, it’s because you called upon Jesus’ name to save you! There’s salvation in no one else! You can’t get salvation from your own self by your works, or through a priest or a man. You obtain salvation through the power and authority that is in His name!
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
The Power to Heal
Acts 4:10, “Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene…”
Acts 9:34, “‘Aeneas,’ Peter said to him, ‘Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.’ Immediately Aeneas got up.”
The Power to Deliver
Mark 16:17, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues”
Acts 16:18 “Paul became so annoyed [grieved] that he turned around and said to the spirit, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!’ At that moment the spirit left her.”
Power in Prayer
John 16:23-24, “In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Truly, truly, I tell you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete”
How He Obtained His Name:
1. By Inheritance: Hebrews 1:1-6 The son of royalty is also royalty. Jesus is worthy of His name, God said in Scriptures of Jesus “I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son”
2. By Bestowal: Philippians 2:9-11 Someone who is knighted has a name bestowed upon them. His resurrection and ascension, Jesus was glorified by the Father, receiving the ultimate authority and the name above all names.
3. By Conquest: Colossians 1:13;2:15 Jesus earned His exalted name through His victory over sin, death, and Satan!
