3 Biblical Guidelines about the Prophetic

1. Do not say “God Said” when He didn’t say.
We should be very careful before we say “God said…”. Some people always think they have a “Word from God”, but you know, if you listen to what they’re saying, it’s not a Word from God. It originated from their mind. God does speak, but He doesn’t speak to your head, He speaks to your heart. When it’s from God, the atmosphere of the room changes when you begin to declare it! It should carry the Presence of God.

Ezekiel 13:6 “who are saying, ‘The Lord declares,’ when the Lord has not sent them; yet they hope for the fulfillment of their word.”
Jeremiah 23:21 I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied.
Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.

2. Beware of False Visions
A false vision are things that do not originate from the heart of God. You don’t just want vision, you want a vision that comes from God! A Vision from God carries weight. There is no room for doubt. It is branded upon your heart and will be with you all the days of your life. Like Jonah you will not be able to run, like Saul you will not be able to hide.
Ezekiel 13:7 Did you not see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you said, ‘The Lord declares,’ but it is not I who have spoken?”
Ezekiel 13:16 along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace,’ declares the Lord God.

3. God’s Word Concerning You Doesn’t Change
Usually when God speaks to me, it’s the same thing He has been saying my whole life. The Word of the Lord doesn’t change. A Word from God will bring you back on the right track. As a parent, if you tell your child to do something they should be doing it. If you find that they aren’t doing what they were told, you have a “Word” with them. Sometimes, when you hear nothing, that’s a good sign! It means you’re doing what you were told.
In the Old Testament the Word of God was put on tablets of stone. It couldn’t be erased or altered. The Word is our rock. It’s a foundation for our life.
Some people always say “God said this”, then next year “God said that” and they’re not consistent. In reality, they’re just doing what they want to do and cloaking it with religion. The Word of the Lord GROUNDS you like a tree with strong root systems.
Sometimes, you need to just strip away all the distractions, get alone with God and find what has God REALLY said, and then ask yourself the question “Am I doing it?”. Ask the Holy Spirit to come with His Fire and burn out everything that’s not of Him, and to shake everything that can be shaken!
Numbers 23:19 “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
