Scripture is full of examples of men and women who were successful business people.

  • Abraham was a wealthy and successful livestock owner. (Genesis 13:2)
  • Isaac, like his father Abraham, was also a successful farmer and livestock owner. (Genesis 26:12-14)
  • Jacob worked for his uncle Laban and acquired considerable wealth in livestock, servants, and other possessions. (Genesis 30:43)
  • Joseph, being second in command in Egypt, managed the country’s resources during years of abundance and famine, essentially overseeing a large-scale economic operation. (Genesis 41)
  • Boaz was a wealthy landowner and farmer. (Ruth 2:1)
  • Lydia was a seller of purple goods from the city of Thyatira, Lydia was a businesswoman who became a Christian and supported Paul and his companions. (Acts 16:14-15).
  • Aquila and Priscilla were a married couple who were tentmakers by trade. They worked with Paul and supported his ministry. (Acts 18:1-3)
  • The Proverbs 31 Woman is described as a capable wife and businesswoman, she engages in trade, real estate, and manages household affairs. (Proverbs 31:10-31)
  • Job had great wealth in livestock and servants, Job was involved in agriculture and livestock trading. (Job 1:1-3)
  • Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector and wealthy man who encountered Jesus, leading to his repentance and restitution. (Luke 19:1-10)
  • The Apostle Paul made tents to support himself and his ministry. (Acts 18:3)

There are many other examples throughout the scripture of those who worked with their hands and were empowered by God to produce wealth and fund the Kingdom of God

Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
