What Is the Ministry of Helps?
The “Ministry of Helps” is anything that helps! 1 Corinthians 12:28 says, “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”
The Helps Ministry is a biblical ministry that God has set in the Church. It started in the Book of Acts 6:2-4, “…the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word”
A few verses later we see the result of the Apostles establishing the Ministry of Helps in the Church of Jerusalem. Verse 7 says: “And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem” We see that the Helps Ministry was a key part in causing the church to explode in growth and discipleship.
The Helps Ministry is a place within our Church for you to humbly exercise the graces, gifts and talents that God has put on your life through serving. It’s also a place where you can be challenged, grow, learn new things and mature as a Believer. This is a way we can become connected in a meaningful way to the Body.

Helps Ministry Commitment & Biblical Conduct Agreement – Your willingness to read and fill out this application is greatly appreciated. We feel it is important to outline our position on three important topics. The last thing we want to do is to put you in a position where you feel you must represent, or appear to give assent to something you don’t personally believe or embrace. So, below are things we would expect those in the Helps Ministry to agree with, communicate and model:
-
Social Media: If you personally use platforms like Facebook or Instagram, remember that they offer a glimpse into your life beyond church. As representatives of Christ, we must honor Him in all spaces, including online. Your posts, including language, images, and comments, are visible to our church community and others who see you as a witness to Christ. Exercise discernment and godly judgment in your social media interactions.
-
Alcohol and Drug Use Please refrain from serving if any of the following applies to you: (1) Arrested for or convicted of an alcohol or drug-related offense within the last year. (2) Currently using medicinal or recreational marijuana or illegal substances. (3) Abusing prescription or over the counter drugs.
-
Inappropriate Relationships: The Bible teaches that sex was created by God as an expression of intimacy between a man and woman within the context of marriage. The River volunteers who embrace lifestyles or behaviors that conflict with the Bible will eventually find themselves having to pretend to be something they are not or believe something they don’t.
