Lk 24:49 And behold, I will send forth upon you what My Father has promised; but remain in the city [Jerusalem] until you are clothed with power from on high.

When we are talking about your prayer language, we are really talking about receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

And if we’re talking about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, we’re talking about being empowered – clothed with power from on high

• Baptism in the Holy Spirit is separate from Salvation

1. 1. 1. Some denominations will teach the Baptism in the Spirit is automatic after salvation – but that’s a doctrine of man and doesn’t originate from scripture.
      2. Acts 8:15-17 On their arrival, they prayed for them to receive the Holy Spirit. 16For the Holy Spirit had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit
      3. So read Acts 8, these people were all saved and water baptized but not baptized in the Holy Spirit.
      4. You should seek it as soon as you find out about it, but some receive it later in life.
      5. It is a life changing experience with God.

• It’s for Every Believer

1. 1. 1. Acts 2:38–39, “Repent and be baptized…in the Name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off…”
      2. It’s not for special people
      3. It is a gift from the Father
         1. James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above…”
         2. Luke 11:13 If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts [a]that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and [b]continue to ask Him!
      4. Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Ghost
         1. Matthew 3:11  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

• The Baptism of the Spirit gives you a supernatural language AND supernatural power.

1. 1. 1. Tongues:
         1. Often called the gateway into the supernatural – it will open the door to God’s power flowing in you and through you. You edify yourself spiritually
         2. It’s for supernatural communication
            1. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
         3. Tongues for Supernatural Praise.
            1. 1 Corinthians 14:15-17  What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
         4. Tongues for Supernatural Edification.
            1. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
         5. Tongues for Supernatural Prayer.
            1. Romans 8:26-27  Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
            2. 1 Corinthians 14:14  For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
            3. Once you are baptized in the Holy Ghost, you can speak in tongues whenever you want to.
            4. Whereas, the gift of tongues operates only as the Spirit wills and should be followed by the interpretation.
         6. Tongues for Supernatural Refreshing.
            1. Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV — For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
            2. John 7:37-39 KJV — In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
            3. People who pray in tongues often, have the most peace and joy
               1. Romans 14:17 KJV — For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
         7. Tongues makes you a channel which the Holy Spirit can flow through
            1. Totally yielded, body/mind/soul
   2. How to Receive
      1. Luke 11:13: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
      2. It’s a matter of asking, praying and believing that you’ve received.
      3. Sometimes you ask, and you feel the power of God come on you and you start praying in tongues immediately. Sometimes, you don’t feel anything at all, but 
      4. God’s word says if we ask then we also receive, so you take it by faith.

• Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus, and I desire to be baptized with Your Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Your Word says that I can have it, and I believe what You have said. I receive this gift by faith in Jesus’ Name. I thank You Father that I am baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues!

1. 1. You must do the speaking
      1. Acts 2:4: “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.”
      2. The Holy Spirit will not talk for you. You must speak!  You will sense the Spirit giving you utterance, but you must take a step of faith and speak forth what the Spirit gives you in tongues.
      3. It may sound strange but allow that supernatural language to flow out of you. You have to remember that you cannot speak two languages at one time.
      4. Begin to worship God out of your heart in your own language, and then stop speaking your native language and begin speaking in tongues. Pray in your prayer language every day.
