2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Ordinary people have accomplished extraordinary things through prayer. God isn’t looking for anyone special, He’s looking for people who will take Him at His Word and believe Him! The book of acts is full of ordinary people, but when they prayed the dead were raised, the sick were healed and jails shook!
Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months. James 5:17
Prayer can totally change your outcome
In 2 Kings, the Lord told Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that he was going to die from his illness. When the Lord tells you you’re going to die, you’re a dead man. However, Hezekiah began to cry out to the Lord, and no sooner had the prophet told him that he was going to die, that the Lord spoke to Isaiah again and told him to tell Hezekiah he would be healed and would have 15 years added to his life!
2 Kings 20:1-6 About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.” When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. But before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, this message came to him from the Lord: “Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria…’”
You can do business with God in prayer. Abraham also did this when he interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah and negotiated that the city would not be destroyed if there were 10 righteous found. Remember that prayer is communicating with God, and God communicating with you!
The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. James 5:16
I heard one man of God once say that if your prayer doesn’t move the air around you, it’s probably not going to move God. When you mean business with God, God means business with you.
Use the Name of Jesus
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13
We have this awesome privilege to use the name of Jesus in our prayer. In the Book of Acts a crippled was healed when the Apostle told him to arise and walk in Jesus name. He later said that it was faith in the name of Jesus that made that man well. When you use the name of Jesus in your prayer, all of heaven stands to attention. Jesus guaranteed results when we use His name in prayer, “so that the Father may be glorified in the Son”
Pray his Will
This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14
God didn’t leave us wondering what His will is. He gave us His Word so that we can study it and know His will. When you are praying according to the Word of God, you’ll always pray in line with Gods will.
