Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Colossians 1:13-14
As Believers, it’s important to understand that we have ALREADY BEEN DELIVERED from the power of the enemy! The word “Power” in Colossians 1:13 is actually the word “Exousia” which can be better translated “Authority.” So we can see that from that verse Christ has already delivered us from the authority of darkness! In other words, the devil has no authority to harm you in any way, shape or form, unless you give him the permission. That is why the Bible says we can resist the devil and he WILL flee from you! Why? Because he has no power over you other than what you allow.
Exousia is the same word used in Luke 10:19 when Jesus said “See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing shall by any means hurt you”
Many Believers are wandering around, trying to “get delivered”, not realizing that Christ has already delivered them from Satan’s Authority, and has translated them into the “Kingdom of His dear Son”, and has given US the Authority over ALL the power of the devil! You were delivered the day you got saved!
Nowhere in the Bible does it instruct believers to pray, or get prayer, that God does something about the devil for us. No, the Bible gives us instruction on how to properly use the authority that we’ve already been given.
The Authority that we have, is greater than the authority that the devil has, because the Greater One lives on the inside of us!
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4
The Bible says we HAVE overcome, and GREATER is He who lives in us, than the adversary that is in the world. Many Christians are confused; some think they’ll overcome the attacks of the devil “Someday”. Christian music is filled with “We will [someday] overcome by the Blood”, “Every stronghold shall [someday] come down”, “Through the storm, just hang in there”, etc… But the Bible teaches that we have ALREADY Overcome by the Blood, and every stronghold HAS ALREADY come down, and we have the same authority as Jesus to speak to our storms and say “Peace, Be Still, In Jesus name!” Hallelujah! We can live life in victory and freedom because of what Jesus did on the cross 2,000 years ago!
In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] John 16:33 AMPC
You’ll never get delivered from having an adversary, whom the Bible says roams around “like a lion seeking someone who he may seize and devour” 1 Peter 5 (The devil looks for people who don’t know their authority). But we can be of good cheer, because though the devil is “like a lion”, we have an actual Lion of the tribe of Judah who lives on the inside of us! Greater is He that is in YOU than he that is in the world!
