Hearing the Voice of God

Romans 8:13-16 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children.

It is a decision that we make every day to be led by the Holy Spirit. In the book of Deuteronomy God said that He sets before us life and death, blessing and cursing. Then He said, “So choose life, so that you and your seed may live.” Paul is saying in Romans that if you choose to live according to the flesh, you will die. Death is a choice, cursing is a choice! God said, CHOOSE LIFE! Paul went on to say that if we, by the power of the Spirit, put to death our flesh, then we will live. Choosing life means walking in the Spirit.

The Bible says that those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. In other words, being led by the Spirit is the mark of maturity for a Believer. It’s the seal of their sonship! If you do not yet know how to be led by the Spirit, you are still a baby in Christ. Many people try to get guidance and confirmation through man, and God certainly does speak through man, however, He wants us getting guidance directly and always from the Holy Spirit who lives on the inside of us.

John 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will announce and declare to you things that are to come! You must understand that God is always talking to us. God doesn’t have a speaking problem, but we often times have a listening problem. If there’s a problem in us being led by the Spirit then the problem is certainly with us and never with God. Some people have a tendency to blame God for when they make a mistake. I’ve heard some Believers say things like “God, if You would have just spoke to me about this, I wouldn’t even be in this mess!”

God WAS speaking to them, and He WAS trying to warn them. You can mark it down! Jesus said that the Holy Spirit WILL announce and declare to you things that are to come! Instead of getting frustrated with the Lord, rather pray, “Father, please help me to see where I wasn’t listening when You were trying to speak to me.” I would want to ask those same people, before they made the decision that got them in such a mess, did they consult God beforehand? Did they spend time praying and seeking God?

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2

Jesus went on to say this in John 16 about the Holy Spirit,

He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of what is Mine and will reveal (declare, transmit) it to you. Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He [the Spirit] will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, transmit) it to you.
John 16:14-15

Hallelujah!! Did you see that!? Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will take what is His and reveal, declare and transmit it to us!! Jesus said, “EVERYTHING that the Father has, is MINE!” Do you know what that means? You have ALL of the resources of Heaven backing you! Jesus said EVERYTHING that the Father has will be transmitted and revealed to you!

Your days of wandering around in confusion is over, God is not the author of confusion. We have the mind of Christ. Fresh direction, wisdom and divine leading comes to you now, in Jesus name!
