“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
– Luke 10:19 KJV
Notice that the word “Power” is used twice in this verse. Jesus said, “I’ve given unto you POWER over all the POWER of the enemy” However, even though it’s the same word in english, it’s two different words in the Greek! The first word for power is the word “exousia” which means “authority” or “the power or rule of government (the power of him whose will and commands must be submitted to by others and obeyed)”
The second time we see the word “power” is actually the word “dynamis” which means “strength”, “power” and “ability”. Let’s read that verse again!
“Behold, I give unto you exousia (authority and rule) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the dynamis (strength, power and ability) of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
– Luke 10:19 KJV
Hallelujah!! Did you see that? Jesus said He has given us AUTHORITY over ALL the strength, power and ability of the enemy! Then He goes on to say that “Nothing shall by any means hurt you” Nothing!
Many Believers unfortunately go their entire Christian lives without fully realizing the Authority that Christ has given the Church over the enemy. It’s unfortunate, because the Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5 that the devil goes around like a lion roaring in fierce hunger, seeking someone that he may seize upon and devour. The devil looks for those who do not understand the authority that they have as a Born Again, Blood bought, Blood washed, Child of the Living God.
It’s important to know that as a Believer you can not be “possessed” by the devil. The devil has deceived some poor Christians who are convinced they’re possessed, but when you are Born Again, you are possessed by the Holy Spirit. You have the Greater One living on the inside of you. However, Believers can be “oppressed”. Demonic oppression is different than demonic possession.
1 Peter 5:8-9 AMPC, “Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. 9 Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.”
Notice Peter telling Christians exactly what to do when it comes to dealing with the demonic. He tells the Believers to withstand the devil!
Mark 16:17, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…”
Jesus said this sign would follow BELIEVERS! Not only those used specially in deliverance, but every one of us has authority in Jesus name over the enemy!
