“Behold, I give unto you power [authority] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19 KJV
Traditional thinking often confuses righteousness with holiness. A lot of people believe that righteousness is the way that you act, but that is not true. Holiness is your conduct, but righteousness is what you are. Scripture calls those who are saved the “righteousness of God”.
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” – 2 Cor 5:21 ESV
The word “righteousness” literally means “Right Standing”. We have been put in a place of right-standing with God because of the finished work of the Cross! Hallelujah! Many people don’t feel good enough to receive Gods blessing and favor, as if they are suppose to earn it from God by doing good works. But, we know from Scripture that righteousness is something that can not be earned. If it could, Christ wouldn’t have had to die to make us righteous in the first place! Thank God, righteousness is a free gift that is given to us that we receive the day we get saved!
“…much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ. –Romans 5:17 (AMPC)
Romans 3:22 also says, “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
What do we learn from those two verses? 1. Righteousness is a free gift that we can receive. 2. Righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ. This free gift of righteousness is received by faith in what Christ did for us. He became our sin on the cross, so that we could be righteous in Him. What a beautiful exchange!
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” – Isaiah 54:17
As long as the enemy can make you feel unworthy, weak, defeated or guilty you will never have the confidense or boldness to take authority over him. Isaiah 54:17 says our righteousness is of Him, not of our good works. As Believers, we can boldly slam every door on the devil, and tell him to GO in the name of Jesus!
The Bible says in Revelation 12:11 that one of the ways they overcame the devil was by the “Blood of the Lamb”. It’s because the precious, wonderful, blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross that we are made righteous. The Blood of Jesus washes us, it cleanses it and purifies us.
Do not allow the enemy to harass you any longer because of your past mistakes. Keep your faith active in what Christ has done for you, receive righteousness!
